Hello study floor
I feel very accomplished today. I have cleaned out and reorganised our study.
I woke up this morning and decided that today was the day. Today I will tackle the mess that is our study. Before the clean out it was hard to do anything in there expect sit at the big computer. Doing anything else required navigating your way around piles of magazines and books.
Now you can do more than sit at the computer. With Tomas' help I have rearranged the study so we only have one desk in here, not two. All of the books are stacked in four piles and the magazines in three. This leaves room for not one, but two armchairs. Hooray! We need a bookcase as well so that the books and magazines can come up off the floor but that will have to wait.
I found lots of interesting things in the clean out - like our car stereo code. After two and half years of no radio we got very excited. Only problem is, we have no idea how to enter it! I have googled it but to no avail as none of the methods seem to work. *sigh*
I'm sick of organising my wedding - someone else want to do it?
I'm very over having to organise stuff for my wedding. There is just so much that has to be done. Currently Tomas and I are trying to decide on:
- ceremony music
- reception music
- cars
- invitations
- organise flowers
- hair and makeup
- bits and piece for my dress
A kid in candy shop
I have just arrived home from shopping with Mum. We went to a bra shop in the Valley that stocks bras for the more well-endowed in our society. We went there for the chief purpose of buying the contraption that will go under my dress to make me look fantastic. We walked out of there with much more - I know have two new bras plus the contraption.
I think it's the first place I've ever been to where I could have anything I wanted. There were all these bras there and they all fitted me! They even had swimwear - I had to stay away from that section.
In the end I was holding about five bras that I needed to choose from. It was bliss. (c:
For the record the shop was called Big Girls Don't Cry (Anymore) and it's address is 28 Baxter St Fortitude Valley. They have a website but it doesn't do their store justice. Just makes it look like all they stock is old lady bras and this not the case!
Now I am off to nap before heading back with Tomas to look at suits.
I am related to someone famous - maybe
Harry Potter
After a week of dedicated budget-sticking-to-ness, I finally had the chance to buy the new Harry Potter book on Monday.
I was very excited on the way up to Dymocks to buy it until I went to check for my dymocks booklover card and realised that I didn't have my wallet with me. So I trudged all the way back across town to the office, grabbed my wallet and walked back to dymocks to buy my book.
Suffice to say, I was disappointed. I don't think that her storytelling in this book was a good as it is in other books. I see that she's trying to make the characters, and the books and storylines more grown up but I'm not too sure it's working. Anyway, I won't ruin it for everyone was wants to read the book but hasn't yet.
Also, yesterday I had a housewife day. I cleaned, washed and cooked.
Julie - the cleaning lady
The cleaning fairy has taken hold of our beloved Julie Kilner. No doubt inspired by my shelf pulling-down redecorating episode she has tackled her desk and the jumble of papers with gusto. Although it looks more organised I'm not sure that she has managed to reduce the the surface area covered with paper.
On a side note, I have eaten far too many licorice bullet and now Sarah has cracked open the prawn chips...woe is me!
Sometimes I Hate Public Transport
I catch the bus to work everyday. Sometimes I catch the bus to uni, and sometimes I catch the bus to random places just because. Normally, I quite enjoy my bus trip. I don't have to think and I can sit back and relax. This morning was a completely different story.
Generally in the morning when Tom and I catch the bus, we try to get on the bus that we can get a seat on. However, this morning we were running a little bit late so we jumped ont he first bus that arrived. It was standing room only. That's okay though, I can handle standing up if I've got something to hold onto. This was not that case this morning as I ended up in the bit where the only thing to hang onto is those handles that dangle from the ceiling. These things may be a great idea if you're tall but if not, they're pretty much useless. I spent the whole trip hanging on for dear life. By the end of the trip, my hand was starting to lose feeling. What made the whole thing worse was that at the next stop after mine, people got off the bus and more space was freed up. But did anyone standing up actually move from their position? No! Then to add insult to injury at the next stop, more people got off but still no one moved! There were even seats that people could sit on but still they remained firmly glued to their spot on the bus. I was so angry!
Anyway, that's all behind me now. I'm at work. Julie has replenished the lolly jar with high quality Darrel Lea sweeties. Yum! Doing everything I can to resist them but it's not working. I will have to have something healthy for lunch now.
Sorry for those who are waiting for pictures of my newly decorated wall. Forgot the camera today. )c: Pictures will arrive shortly.
My Dad has a Blog...
My dad has had a blog for while now but he's worse than I am at remembering to post to it. When we does post though, it's always worthwhile. He's actually posted twice in one week this week. Have a read of it.
School Children are the Devil's Spawn
How on earth do teachers do it?!
Yesterday I helped out at en event at uni called IT Can Take you Anywhere. It was organised by Jenine and the people from WIT. Basically, 1500 schoolgirls came to the uni to see IT people and stuff. OMG it was crazy.
Jules came too and we stuck together all day. Our first job was to man the feedback and showbag table. Give those girls a whiff of free stuff and they go crazy! It was pure pandemonium. There were some cool things in the bag like a mobile phone toggle, some lip gloss and a QANTAM temporary tattoo so we stole some to keep for ourselves.
Julie also gave a demonstration to some primary school kids about Flash. The teacher with them told us that these girls are currently doing some video editing to make a DVD. What the...?! When I was in primary school, I think I saw a computer a grand total of about three times and they were all those dodgy Apple Mac boxes. It's quite possible that some of the girls in the room will finish high school with more skills than I had when I finished uni. Makes you wonder...
Finally, last night the neighbour's cat was possibly hit by a car. Unforunately it was in a very bad way and I don't think it made it. Very sad.
In better news, I found a job that looks good and I'm going to apply for it. Go me!
Where Do I Begin...
It's been so long since I last posted that I've reached the stage of not knowing where to start. So many things have happened. I'll make some headings.
Wedding
Well, the wedding is now four and half months away. Ohh scary! There are still lots of things to do, but we're slowly ticking them off. Most importantly, I've ordered my dress. I'm very pleased with it. It will be a surprise for most people I'm sure (Julie excluded who knows everything).
We've also been talking about cars and entertainment but there's so much choice it's hard to come to consensus.
Lastly, invitations and gift registry. Who would have thought it was so difficult to word the invitations and organise a gift registry. Hopefully, we can tick this off over the weekend.
Uni
After much deliberation, I've decided to put uni on hold for the time being. Right now, I just don't think I'm ready to be doing this kind of study. Firstly, I'm enjoying free-time too much. Being able to relax after work is great and actually having a weekend is fantastic! Secondly, if I stayed at uni Tomas and I would probably never spend any time together. Thirdly, we've got a wedding to organise.
Work
Work is fine. Nothing to complain about. Nothing to swing from the rafter about either. Leonie left us for London which makes us sad cause she was great. Always encouraging me to do silly things. However, she is having a great time in London away from TeamSite so we are happy for her.
I have redecorated my section of the pod (yes, depressingly, we are forced to sit in pods) with some coloured paper I found in a drawer. I've culled a whole heap of useless stuff from the selves and drawers near me so I now have more space for my own piles of useless stuff.
Golf
I haven't golfed (is that a word?) for a while. I was sick and then Tom was sick so we hadn't had a chance to get out to the driving range. Tom played yesterday though and scored a birdie. Golf claps for Tom.
My swing is really improving. I'm actually able to hit some of my clubs the distance I'm supposed to and I'm hitting up on the ball.
That's about it for now. I'll make an effort to actually update this thing in the future. (c:
